Dr. Gerald F. DeWitt
Dr. Gerald F. DeWitt is a surgeon and vitreoretinal specialist at The National Retina Institute (NRI). He is a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, vascular occlusive disease, retinal detachment, and other retinal diseases.
Dr. DeWitt graduated with honors from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana in 1975. He earned his M.S. degree in chemistry from University of Maryland, Baltimore County, in 1977, and earned his medical degree from Georgetown University in 1983. Dr. DeWitt then completed an internship at Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans, followed by residency training in ophthalmology in their ophthalmology department. Following residency training Dr. DeWitt undertook a fellowship program in retina and vitreous diseases and surgery at Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation.
Dr. DeWitt is board certified in ophthalmology and is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
In his free time, Dr. DeWitt is an accomplished antique clock repairman and is experienced in antique furniture restoration. He is also active in the restoration of antique automobiles.
